University of North Georgia (UNG) students Atticus Tomcho and Mary Dickens teamed up with their adviser, Dr. David Patterson, to win the best poster award in the Earth Sciences section at the 100th annual Georgia Academy of Sciences Conference. Tomcho and Dickens are each pursuing a degree in biology.

Twelve students and four two faculty members from the University of North Georgia (UNG) attended the Georgia Chapter of The Wildlife Society (GA TWS) annual meeting held March 2-3 in Macon, Georgia. Three student groups won awards.

UNG's poultry judging team finished fifth overall at the annual USPOULTRY Foundation National Contest, including top-six finishes in all three categories, and earned six individual awards.

University of North Georgia student Emma Vail was part of the winning team in Georgia Tech's Sustainable-X Entrepreneurship program.

More than 100 military awards and scholarships were presented to University of North Georgia cadets at the March 30 Military Awards Ceremony and the April 16 Military Awards Review.

UNG held the Annual Research Conference on March 24 at its Dahlonega Campus. The conference had more than 100 student submissions and five winners.

Students Haley Menees and Aysia Bittinger each earned the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, as UNG tied for the second-most recipients among public universities in Georgia.

University of North Georgia student Ashleigh Slaughter took first place out of 140 competitors at the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) at Kennesaw State University in March, and UNG's student team took third overall out of 70 schools competing.

Ashley Tunnell and Ethan Holtzclaw were recognized for their literary works by the Southern Literary Festival and will get to read their winning publications at the festival.

Four University of North Georgia students presented their research at Posters at the Capitol in Atlanta on Feb. 27. Posters at the Capitol is a yearly event put on by the Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective to promote undergraduate research to legislators.

The University of North Georgia's (UNG) Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (CURCA) has awarded its 2022 Student-Faculty Collaborative Mini-Grants. CURCA awarded six grants.

Ten female UNG students and five alumnae were recognized on March 5 for their leadership and resiliency by the Women of UNG. Some of the honorees were unable to attend.

A group of five UNG students won the fifth annual innovateUNG Pitch Challenge held on Feb. 21 at the University of North Georgia's Dahlonega Campus.

University of North Georgia sophomore Denim Lovett was crowned Miss Georgia Teen USA 2023 on Nov. 19. The competition took place in McDonough, Georgia, where Lovett ran on the platform "involvement counts," which emphasized the importance of student involvement in schools and communities.

UNG junior Anna Cronan has been selected for the summer 2023 Fulbright-MITACS Globalink Program, where she will conduct cover crop research.

Thirteen students and alumni from the University of North Georgia (UNG) have been selected as semifinalists for the 2023-24 Fulbright U.S. Student Program, a competitive fellowship.

University of North Georgia (UNG) President Bonita C. Jacobs recognized students who achieved a 4.0 GPA during the fall 2022 semester. Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor's degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point average were named to the President's Honor Roll. Students enrolled in associate degree or dual enrollment programs who met the same level of achievement were named to the President's List.

The deans of each of UNG's colleges announced the names of those students who made their respective lists for fall 2022. Dean's List recognition is achieved by having at least a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

Twenty-three cadets began their time as University of North Georgia (UNG) cadets with Freshman Recruit Orientation Group (FROG) Week from Jan. 4-8. FROG Week marks the transition from civilian to military life within UNG's Corps of Cadets.

Nine University of North Georgia (UNG) students were selected this fall for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

For the fall 2022 semester, the University of North Georgia (UNG) awarded more than 900 degrees and 12 certificates to graduates. About 600 graduates participated in the fall 2022 commencement ceremonies held Dec. 17 at the Convocation Center at UNG's Dahlonega Campus.

In ceremonies held on Dec. 16 by the University of North Georgia, 21 graduating cadets were awarded commissions as second lieutenants. They are the first of the 100 officers UNG expects to commission during the 2022-23 academic year.

The University of North Georgia (UNG) poultry judging team placed eighth at the National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest held in November at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The University of North Georgia's Ethics Bowl team will head to Portland, Oregon, in March for the 2023 national competition after a second-place finish in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl. It marks UNG's first Ethics Bowl national appearance since 2015.

UNG students and faculty gave back to Hall County through volunteering at a Habitat for Humanity build this fall.

The University of North Georgia (UNG) Department of Visual Arts and the Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) office partnered for the 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month Student Art Exhibition. This is the second time the event has been held.
