UNG biology students earn best poster honor

University of North Georgia (UNG) students Atticus Tomcho and Mary Dickens teamed up with their adviser, Dr. David Patterson, to win the best poster award in the Earth Sciences section at the 100th annual Georgia Academy of Sciences Conference. Tomcho and Dickens are each pursuing a degree in biology.

University of North Georgia student Ashleigh Slaughter took first place out of 140 competitors at the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) at Kennesaw State University in March, and UNG's student team took third overall out of 70 schools competing.

Lovett crowned Miss Georgia Teen USA 2023

University of North Georgia sophomore Denim Lovett was crowned Miss Georgia Teen USA 2023 on Nov. 19. The competition took place in McDonough, Georgia, where Lovett ran on the platform "involvement counts," which emphasized the importance of student involvement in schools and communities.

University of North Georgia announces President's Lists for fall 2022

University of North Georgia (UNG) President Bonita C. Jacobs recognized students who achieved a 4.0 GPA during the fall 2022 semester. Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor's degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point average were named to the President's Honor Roll. Students enrolled in associate degree or dual enrollment programs who met the same level of achievement were named to the President's List.

The deans of each of UNG's colleges announced the names of those students who made their respective lists for fall 2022. Dean's List recognition is achieved by having at least a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

For the fall 2022 semester, the University of North Georgia (UNG) awarded more than 900 degrees and 12 certificates to graduates. About 600 graduates participated in the fall 2022 commencement ceremonies held Dec. 17 at the Convocation Center at UNG's Dahlonega Campus.

In ceremonies held on Dec. 16 by the University of North Georgia, 21 graduating cadets were awarded commissions as second lieutenants. They are the first of the 100 officers UNG expects to commission during the 2022-23 academic year.

The University of North Georgia's Ethics Bowl team will head to Portland, Oregon, in March for the 2023 national competition after a second-place finish in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl. It marks UNG's first Ethics Bowl national appearance since 2015.
