Twelve UNG cadets traveled abroad this summer for professional development opportunities.

UNG alumni Elizabeth Dobbs, 2nd Lt. Phillip Ly and Sonrisa Reed and student Emma Vail took part in an internship this summer with the University of Maryland's Research for Intelligence and Security Challenges Initiative.

University of North Georgia (UNG) senior Anna Cronan was named an honorable mention for the Udall Undergraduate Scholarship at the end of her junior year. The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service and commitment to Native American nations or environment-related issues.

University of North Georgia (UNG) President Michael Shannon recognized students who achieved a 4.0 GPA during the summer 2023 semester. Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor's degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade-point average were named to the President's Honor Roll. Students enrolled in associate degree or dual enrollment programs who met the same level of achievement were named to the President's List.

For the summer 2023 semester, the University of North Georgia (UNG) awarded about 460 degrees and 43 certificates to graduates. Almost 300 graduates participated in the summer 2023 commencement ceremony held Aug. 4 at the Convocation Center at UNG's Dahlonega Campus.

The deans of each of UNG's colleges announced the names of those students who made their respective lists for summer 2023. Dean's List recognition is achieved by having at least a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

From Feb. 27 to June 26, the pair of cadets are fully immersed in Lithuanian culture while studying at the General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania. Other cadets studied abroad in Taiwan, Romania and South Korea in spring 2023.

UNG cadet Anthony Linatoc took first place in the cadet division of the U.S. Army Small Arms Championships on March 18 at Fort Benning, Georgia.

University of North Georgia junior Abby Colwell designed three challenge coins for state Rep. Will Wade, who represents Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties, and who created a contest for UNG's visual arts students.

A team of University of North Georgia marketing students took first place in the American Marketing Association/Kennesaw State Regional/Collegiate Conference Case in March, and one of the students won an additional award. The team included Alexandria Arnold, Denise Gonzalez, Jacob Rouse, and Anh Tran.
