With more than 18,000 students, the University of North Georgia is the state’s sixth-largest public university. Sniffen earns study abroad grant

University of North Georgia (UNG) senior Autumn Sniffen was awarded the Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant to study at the National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan. Originally from Catonsville, Maryland, Sniffen is pursuing a degree in modern languages with a concentration in Chinese for global professionals.

Student experiences Japan for a week

University of North Georgia (UNG) student Autumn Cleymans spent a week in Japan for the Kakehashi Project this January. She earned the opportunity through her first-place finish in the most advanced level of the Japanese Speech Contest held at Kennesaw State University in spring 2023.

The opportunities for expanding global knowledge at the University of North Georgia (UNG) continue to grow as new programs are added. During this summer alone, 234 UNG students participated in study abroad and international internships. For the 2018-19 academic year, UNG has 36 active programs in 15 countries.

For many college students, their first experience traveling out of the country is through a study abroad trip. For University of North Georgia (UNG) cadets, a $20,000 grant from the Olmsted Foundation will help fund overseas cultural immersion trips, such as conference participation.

UNG professor and students explore Sicily's ancient past

This summer, University of North Georgia (UNG) assistant professor Dr. William Balco stood on the Sicilian ground occupied by inhabitants during the Iron Age and relished learning new elements about their civilization. The anthropology coordinator took nine UNG students to Monte Bonifato, a forested mountain in northwestern Sicily. The students spent four weeks searching for artifacts from multiple ancient cultures who populated the area during the past 3,000 years.
