Two senior criminal justice majors presented their research as University of North Georgia (UNG) representatives at the annual meeting of the Criminal Justice Association of Georgia in October at Clayton State University in Morrow.

The University of North Georgia awarded more than 800 degrees for the fall 2016 semester, including hundreds awarded in commencement exercises held Dec. 16-17 at the university. "We are here to honor you with the richest tradition in the academic community - a commencement ceremony," UNG President Bonita Jacobs said before conferring degrees. "We all know what it took for you to reach this moment. We know that, as graduates of UNG, you will add meaning and value to the lives of those around you. Our hopes and dreams are with you. Congratulations on this important milestone."

Amberly Hedden, a Dawsonville native and senior nursing student set to graduate this May from the University of North Georgia (UNG), is one of 10 students in the nation selected to receive the newly created Hurst Review National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) Scholar award.

Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor's degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point average were named to the President's Honor Roll. Students enrolled in associate degree programs who met the same level of achievement were named to the President's List.

The deans of each of UNG's five colleges - the College of Arts & Letters, the College of Education, the College of Health Sciences & Professions, the Mike Cottrell College of Business, and the College of Science & Mathematics - announced the names of those students who made their respective lists for fall 2016. Dean's List recognition is achieved by having a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

In ceremonies held Dec. 16-17, 2016, at the University of North Georgia, graduating cadets were awarded commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army or Georgia National Guard.

In total, 34 UNG cadets are ranked in the top 20 percent in the nation among more than 5,000 Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets assessed by U.S. Army Cadet Command, which earns them the designation of Distinguished Military Graduate.

Dezmone Valentine, a senior majoring in middle-grades education at the University of North Georgia (UNG), has been awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad during spring 2017, when she will travel to Valencia, Spain.

The life of the average cadet at the University of North Georgia (UNG) is notoriously busy. For a cadet major to also work a part-time job while earning three degrees simultaneously would therefore be impossible. Yet, William Putt of Cumming, Georgia has done just that.

The university's summer commencement ceremonies were held Aug. 2 for some 400 participants for summer semester. UNG conferred more than 450 degrees and certificates for the semester.
