University of North Georgia President Bonita Jacobs recognizes students who achieved a 4.0 grade point average during the fall 2017 semester. Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor's degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point average were named to the President's Honor Roll. Students enrolled in associate degree programs who met the same level of achievement were named to the President's List.

The deans of each of UNG's five colleges - the College of Arts & Letters, the College of Education, the College of Health Sciences & Professions, the Mike Cottrell College of Business, and the College of Science & Mathematics - announced the names of those students who made their respective lists for fall 2017. Dean's List recognition is achieved by having at least a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

Olmsted grant doubles, funding more overseas trips for cadets

For many college students, their first experience traveling out of the country is through a study abroad trip. For University of North Georgia (UNG) cadets, a $20,000 grant from the Olmsted Foundation will help fund overseas cultural immersion trips, such as conference participation.

47 UNG cadets earn recognition as Distinguished Military Graduates

Some 47 Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets at the University of North Georgia (UNG) have been ranked in the top 20 percent in the nation out of 5,536 cadets in this year's U.S. Army Cadet Command national Order of Merit List. Ranking in the top 20 percent and higher also carries with it designation as a Distinguished Military Graduate.

Two UNG cadets ranked in top five in the nation

Two Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets at the University of North Georgia (UNG) have ranked in the top five - out of 5,536 cadets - in this year's U.S. Army Cadet Command national Order of Merit List. Cadet 1st Lt. Andrew Gomez of Cumming, Georgia, is ranked second in the nation and Cadet Lt. Col. Bryton Wenzel of Albany, Georgia, is ranked fifth.

Ranger Challenge headed to West Point for Sandhurst competition

The University of North Georgia's Ranger Challenge Black team advances to Sandhurst after winning the Spartan Ranger Challenge hosted by U.S. Army Cadet Command on Oct. 26-29 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. UNG bested 18 teams with 198 total Cadets from the nation's junior and senior military colleges. UNG's Ranger Challenge Gold team also competed at Fort Knox.

UNG rifle team captures fifth consecutive Georgia State Championship

For the fifth year in a row, the University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team claimed the Georgia State Championship on Oct. 14 with a victory against Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. UNG is about halfway through its season with the national championship qualifier set for Feb. 17 and the conference championship March 3.

Kele Howerton would not describe herself as a hero, but others would. The 19-year-old University of North Georgia (UNG) student helped rescue an unidentified man from drowning in the Rhine River near Strasbourg, France, while on her study abroad program in July.

UNG professor and students explore Sicily's ancient past

This summer, University of North Georgia (UNG) assistant professor Dr. William Balco stood on the Sicilian ground occupied by inhabitants during the Iron Age and relished learning new elements about their civilization. The anthropology coordinator took nine UNG students to Monte Bonifato, a forested mountain in northwestern Sicily. The students spent four weeks searching for artifacts from multiple ancient cultures who populated the area during the past 3,000 years.

Latino Student Association connects UNG students to Hispanic culture

Growing up in California and Georgia, Bryan Herrera didn't feel connected to his Hispanic culture. In fact, he admitted his Spanish-speaking skills were "awful." But when Herrera enrolled at the University of North Georgia (UNG), he finally found a connection. "With the Latino Student Association (LSA), I was introduced to a new world, culture and people," the sophomore computer science major said. He now serves as LSA president.

UNG biology student spends summer tracking turtles

One University of North Georgia (UNG) ecology class and lab spent tracking turtles and studying their habitat hooked the interest of UNG senior Jessica Martin. Now, the 19-year-old Alpharetta woman is part of an undergraduate research project at UNG that studies the home range and habitat use of 21 Eastern box turtles, which are vulnerable for extinction, in Gainesville.

The University of North Georgia (UNG) has signed an agreement creating a new partnership with the National University of Public Service (NUPS) in Budapest, only the third U.S. partner for the Hungarian university. Two UNG cadets are the first to study abroad through the new partnership.

UNG announces high school seniors awarded UNG Military Scholarship

The University of North Georgia (UNG) announces the high school seniors who have been awarded the 2017 UNG Military Scholarship. Each year, the state of Georgia offers 42 scholarships worth $70,000 over four years to Georgia high school seniors who attend UNG and plan to commission as officers in the Georgia Army National Guard after graduating with bachelor's degrees. The scholarship pays for room, meals, tuition, books, uniforms, and fees. In addition, recipients get National Guard weekend drill pay, GI Bill, pay for attending Army basic and advanced training, and, for those cadets offered a contract to commission as a lieutenant, Army ROTC contract pay at the beginning of sophomore or junior year.
