University of North Georgia (UNG) cadets are spending the 2016-17 academic year studying in China through the university's Chinese Language Flagship Program, which has been renewed for another four-year, $1.2 million grant.

A group of 15 freshmen at the University of North Georgia's (UNG) Blue Ridge Campus were chosen for the inaugural Blue Ridge Scholars program, which provides first-time freshmen with integrated instruction and support.

On Sept. 11, the University of North Georgia's (UNG) Boar's Head Brigade held the Distinguished Military Students (DMS) Review, conducted annually to honor senior ROTC cadets who have excelled academically and as leaders.

In ceremonies held August 2, 2016, at the University of North Georgia, graduating cadets were awarded commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. armed forces.

The deans of each of UNG's five colleges - the College of Arts & Letters, the College of Education, the College of Health Sciences & Professions, the Mike Cottrell College of Business, and the College of Science & Mathematics - announced the names of 62 students who made their respective lists for summer 2016. Dean's List recognition is achieved by having a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

The university's summer commencement ceremonies were held Aug. 2 for some 400 participants for summer semester. UNG conferred more than 450 degrees and certificates for the semester.

Dr. Bonita C. Jacobs, president of UNG, recognized 80 students who earned a 4.0 during the summer 2016 semester. Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor's degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point average were named to the President's Honor Roll. Students enrolled in associate degree programs who met the same level of achievement were named to the President's List.

In ceremonies held May 6-7 at the University of North Georgia, 49 graduating cadets were awarded commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserves or Georgia National Guard.
