The University of North Georgia is a University System of Georgia leadership institution and is The Military College of Georgia. Chemistry major assists in research project

UNG student Evan Smith acquired the skills he would need in a doctoral program by assisting a University of North Georgia professor of chemistry in a research project, which was funded by a National Science Foundation grant. The junior pursuing a chemistry degree used those techniques to co-author a paper under review for a journal.

Junior named alternate for Rangel Summer program

UNG junior Ann Lim was named an alternate for the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program. The program provides undergraduate students with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers.

Elizabeth "Liza" Greenberg won the title of 2021 Miss Georgia Teen USA in February. She is a freshman at the University of North Georgia, where she is pursuing a degree in elementary and special education.

Two UNG students explored the option of being a Foreign Service officer during the highly competitive Cox-State Department Diplomacy Seminar. They won entrance into the professional exploration program held virtually in October. Their selections mark the second consecutive time UNG students have participated in the Cox-State Seminar.

One UNG senior and one UNG alumnus to teach in Thailand

UNG senior Jacey Sherman and her fiance, UNG alumnus Trevor Bowman, were accepted to the Teach Thailand Corps program. It recruits and places graduates of American colleges in schools in less-developed provinces to teach English and other subjects in Thailand. The pair will leave in May 2021.

Blue Ridge Scholars seek to serve the local community

To find students enthusiastic about the service projects that are part of the Blue Ridge Scholars program at the University of North Georgia (UNG), Dr. Nathan Price interviewed the applicants this year to the cohort-style program. "We get an idea of who they are and what they want to accomplish, and they get an idea about the program and its requirements," said Price, coordinator for the Blue Ridge Scholars program. Blue Ridge Scholars are full-time freshmen who receive extra academic support in the first year and participate in service-learning activities. As a cohort, they have a lower teacher-to-student ratio to help ease the transition from high school to college.
