Amberly Hedden, a Dawsonville native and senior nursing student set to graduate this May from the University of North Georgia (UNG), is one of 10 students in the nation selected to receive the newly created Hurst Review National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) Scholar award.

A number of UNG students have earned nationally prestigious scholarships valued at thousands of dollars and opportunities to study abroad or participate in exclusive internships.

Two students were awarded the first-ever poultry science scholarships this spring at the University of North Georgia, supported by donations from local poultry industries.

Joshua McCausland, a senior majoring in biology at the University of North Georgia (UNG), is one of 16 students in the nation selected for the prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program, which includes an internship and employment at the institute.

Two University of North Georgia students from more than 1,000 students nationwide were awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad during summer 2014. A third UNG student received the scholarship for fall 2014.

Two University of North Georgia (UNG) students, both cadets majoring in Arabic, have been awarded David L. Boren Scholarships to study in the Middle East during the 2014-15 academic year. Sponsored by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), the Boren program provides American undergraduate students up to $20,000 for an academic year's study abroad.

John Dees, a junior majoring in environmental and spatial analysis at the University of North Georgia, has been selected to receive an Udall Scholarship, one of only 50 in the nation.

The $10,000 Chinese Government Scholarship, awarded by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), is given to only 10 students nationally from among the 400-plus AASCU member institutions.
