2016 Sep 2

Jesse Jane Wells of Gainesville, Georgia has earned a/an Master of Arts in Teaching in Mathematics from the University of North Georgia (UNG).

"We are here to honor you with the richest tradition in the academic community - a commencement ceremony," UNG President Bonita Jacobs said before conferring degrees. "We all know what it took for you to reach this moment. We know that, as graduates of UNG, you will add meaning and value to the lives of those around you. Our hopes and dreams are with you. Congratulations on this important milestone."

Along with Dr. Jacobs, Dr. Victoria Hightower, guest speaker and assistant professor of history at UNG, spoke to the graduates about how making the right choices can impact their lives for years to come. "There are three important points I want to give you, to help you suceed. First, be willing to take a job that you think you are too good for. Use the money to build your life and future. Second, never stop networking, both professionally and personally. Third, never give up on your passion. Because of your time at UNG, you now have everything you need for all your tomorrows."

Separate commissioning ceremonies were held later the same day for 24 members of the Corps of Cadets entering the armed forces as second lieutenants. Individual commissioning ceremonies recognized their service and leadership, and formally marked their entry into the U.S. Armed Forces.
